Creating an Outdoor Oasis

With warmer weather finally on the horizon it’s time to start thinking about our outdoor spaces!  For us New Englander’s it means uncovering wrapped up outdoor sets, rolling out those stored away outdoor rugs and maybe even buying a few new pieces to freshen up that outdoor space.  I’ve been dreaming about the days when we can sit on our patio under the warm sunshine with a cold drink in hand, laughing with family and friends by the fire pit.  These are the day we dream of all winter long and believe it or not they are just about here!  In this post I’ll share how you can create that outdoor oasis you’ve been dreaming of with pieces from one of my favorite online retailers All Modern.

      Creating an Outdoor Oasis

All Modern recently reached out to ask if I’d share my favorites of their outdoor pieces and create a design using them.  Since I already have outdoor spaces on the brain I said “yes of course!”.  So here you have it.  Let’s dive deeper into your exterior space, shall we?  You want it to be more than just a grill and a couple of chairs right.  Let me guess, you want it to be a little oasis?  Imagine walking out of your house, stepping a few feet into an outdoor paradise that is all yours!  You didn’t even have to get onto a plane.  YAY!  How can we make this a reality for you?

First, think of your outdoor space as an extension of your home interior.  How can you bring that same cozy and comfy feeling outside?  Simple.  Think about the same things you add to your interior spaces = rug + furniture + lighting.  Next, whether you have a deck, porch or patio it’s important to define the zones of your outdoor oasis, like in this design above.  If you have the square footage to include a dining area and a sitting or bonfire area, go for it!  If you have a smaller outdoor space try to prioritize what will get used more.  Will you be dining outside? Reading or entertaining?  Considering how your outdoor space will function for you will really help you create your outdoor oasis!

Next when planning your outdoor space or any space for that matter think about your color scheme, decide if you want to add a pop of color(s) or keep it neutral.   In this design as you can see I went neutral with pops of black!  However, in my outdoor space which you can see more of HERE– I do some warm woods and pops of navy and teal.   When you are working with a neutral theme it’s important to add in texture and interesting shapes.  I love the texture in Timmerman Teak Chair set and also the laidback-ness of them.  The shape of the Tear Drop patio chair is also so fun and screams reading nook.  If you have a large outdoor area you will need to add pieces that balance it out like with this gorgeous Soler Patio Sectional, perfect for entertaining.

Once you select your furniture pieces and zones, add rugs to define those zones.  I love the Veranda Outdoor Rug for the soft gray color and the pattern.   Lastly, and my favorite part of an outdoor oasis is lighting.  For beautiful ambient lighting in your outdoor oasis, lighting options should consist of
  • candles/lanterns
  • fire pit (if possible)
  • twinkle lights
When you are creating your outdoor oasis this spring consider furniture that is made for the outdoors but looks good enough to use indoors.  I also recommend NOT to go for matching sets, it will make your space more interesting and eclectic to mix in different pieces.   As you can see All Modern has everything you need to make your outdoor space a true Oasis!  I’ll be waiting for my invite 😉
